Tucked away down a cobbled street but close to the centre of town, set in its own lush tropical garden is our four star choice for Funchal. This family owned and managed hotel incorporates a converted manor house dating back to 1830. 

The hotel has fine views over the sea and a new annexe (available if requested) on the coastline. There are two swimming pools with accompanying sun decks, one heated.

The rooms are equipped with mini bar, telephone, cable TV, safe and hairdryer. All rooms have a bath. Many rooms have a balcony and air conditioning, but these carry a supplement. 

Dinner is three courses a la carte with many Madeira specialities and is served at table .
