The Walking

There is no need to go far from the village to enjoy an amazing array of walks each with its own characteristics. You may be walking through cherry orchards and olive fields through river gorges ‘barrancos’ or along ridges with far reaching views.

Explore ancient Iberian settlements and Moorish ruins and enjoy spotting local plants insects and birds. They all combine to make unforgettable walks.

A feature of this destination (included in the cost) is that there are few car journeys to get to a walk and if required they are less than 30 minutes in length. The walks are of easy to medium difficulty with maximum climbs of 500m and walks generally take 4 – 6 hours.

Your Guide

Erik your guide originally from the UK has been living in Tarbena for over 10 years. He is very settled there, with his partner Esperanza (who was born in the village) and daughter Carla. When not guiding he farms his land around the village where he produces cherries, olives, almonds and carob beans.

Erik graduated a number of years ago in Environmental Studies and he applies this knowledge together with his farming experience in making the area come alive as he guides you through the local valleys and mountains.

Erik will know most of the people he passes and will exchange pleasantries in Valenciano which he speaks fluently as well as Castilian Spanish. He is also very knowledgeable on all the local wildlife, plants and history. He has been guiding people for many years and is always willing and able to tailor the walks to suit the walker’s interests.

Guided - Independent Holidays

Five days guided walking is included and is available year round except July and August. Advice is given on the many local places to visit on your non-walking day or you can take a self guided walk, notes provided. The day may well end in a late lunch (by UK standards but not by Spanish) taken in a local restaurant or even a paella cooked by Esperanza and enjoyed in the shade of an olive tree.

Self Guided Holidays

We will send you our exclusive Walking Booklet for the area with a choice of walks from easy to moderate nature. Most of the walks will start and finish in the village and will be of a very different nature every day. Erik will arrange car transfers for those walks which require it, and will be on hand to offer local advice.
