Mallorca
is now well and truly on the walking map with walkers discovering that
the island is not just beaches and a sun tan. To the north and northwest
of the island is a limestone mountain range the Sierra de Tramuntana
with many peaks rising to over 1000m and culminating in the Puig Mayor
at 1447 metres. Majorca has over 500km of coastline, with an abundance
of picturesque coves and inlets where the mountains meet the sea.
Springtime brings beautiful sub-alpine flowers to enhance your walks on
the slopes below rocky mountain summits. Lower down, paths are scented
year round by lavender and wild thyme.
The
walks are generally well marked and are often along old mule
tracks, formerly trading routes between villages. Stunning
panoramic views towards the sea are plentiful whether you
are on a cliff path or many miles inland. A number of the
walks in Mallorca have been closed by private land owners
barring the way and many guide books are now quite out of
date. Our guided and self guided walks take this into
account and offer uninterrupted walking.
Pollenca village is the centre for our guided walks
enabling you to explore the mountains, cliffs and seascapes of the north
east and north of the island. Your guide is English and has lived in
Mallorca for the last 20 years. Transport is provided to take you to and
from the walk which will vary from 8 to 16 km. We would grade them of
medium difficulty mostly using good paths albeit a little stony at
times. We offer guided walking during the spring and autumn and walks
vary from week to week. We are able to offer full advice on the walks
before booking your holiday. The walking groups will be cosmopolitan but
the majority of clients will be British.

We offer a choice of
walks for all abilities from our base in Port de
Soller. These, we feel are the best bases
for self guided walking. Many walks are available from either hotel or
you can use the reliable public transport by bus or train (timetable
provided) to access those walks further a field or to return you home at
the end of the day.
We have chosen two hotels for self guided
walking holidays in Puerto Soller as we believe this is the best base for self
guided walking with its good accessible public transport. The 4 *
Aimaia and the 2*
Marina both excellent value for their
category. For guided walking we have gone for an absolutely delightful small
hotel the Posada
de Lluc in Pollenca as this is where are
guiding walking is centred.
Mallorca can be enjoyed all year round although July and August may be too
hot for all but the most hardy walkers. Temperatures average 29C and
little rain falls although there is often a cooling sea breeze.
Excellent walking conditions fall during Spring and Autumn, when average
maximum temperatures range from 17C in March to 23C in October. Winter
walkers will be rewarded with empty paths and a cool average 14C in
January and still enjoy up to 5 hours of sunshine daily. Snow falls on
the mountain peaks during the winter, glistening against Mallorca’s deep
blue skies.
By Air to Palma:
There are flights to more airports in the UK than probably any other
airport, with extensive scheduled, 'no frills' and charter flights, so
you almost certainly will be able to fly from your local airport.
We are more than happy for guests to
arrange their own flights. You may, for example have air
miles to use up!
Transfer to and from your hotel is provided and takes 45 minutes.
